Music for Adults

Music Appreciation
Wind Band
Chamber Music

It is never too late to start to learn a musical instrument! Hindhead has almost as many adult pupils as children, and at all levels from complete beginners to post-graduates. Very often it is only in later life that there is the time and determination to put in the necessary practice to make it really worth while as a wonderfully satisfying hobby. Many of our pupils have played as children and decided to take it up again in later life, yet many others have come to it as complete beginners and discovered what a rewarding hobby it is. As the school is open from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm there is ample opportunity to have lessons after work and there is a steady 'briefcase brigade' who start rolling off the trains from London. Also while the children are at school many adults come to Hindhead during the mornings for music-making and enjoying a musical social life.

Fees: 246 per term for 10 lessons.

Music Appreciation - Monday Morning Music Talks

Roy Stratford has not only an amazing knowledge of music, but he has an infectious way of inspiring, educating, entertaining and enthusing his audiences with his own passion for music. He covers a wide field of musical subjects.

His talks are held every Monday morning during Term time from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon with a break for coffee. They are held in the elegant Recital Room and Roy uses live music as well as recordings.

The Hindhead Symphony Orchestra (formerly the LSO)

The H.S.O!  is for adults of about Grade 2/3 upwards. It is conducted by Oliver Nelson who manages to combine a great sense of enthusiasm and encouragement as well as serious work which produces a remarkably high standard of performance at the final annual public concert, even though at the first rehearsal of the term it may be hard to recognise the music! The H.S.O. also performs at the termly Adult Beginners' Evening. Anyone can join, they do not have to be taking lessons at HMC. It meets on Tuesdays at 8.15 pm.

Fees: 70 per term,  HMC Pupils 35 per term

Hindhead Wind Band

The Wind Band is for all wind and brass players from about Grade 2/3 upwards. It is conducted by Vince Godfrey, and meets on Tuesdays from 7.00 to 8.00 pm. It is open to both those who take lessons here and all others are very welcome, but there is a small fee.
