Classes for children with physical
disabilities.
|
| Music is Magic ! is a unique programme of
musical activities, intended to allow even the most severely disabled child
to experience the joy of creating and performing music. This is made
possible by integrating modern music technology with traditional methods.
Audrey Podmore has researched ways of adapting the teaching methods
of two great music educators: Zoltan Kodaly and Emile Jacques
Dalcroze. Kodaly and Dalcroze each sought to develop the whole
child,
with emphasis on the physical experience of music. |

| If rhythmic training is important for the musical
development of able-bodied children, then it must be even more so for the
motor-impaired child. Hence, while the aims of these classes are
educational rather than therapeutic, much emphasis is given to ways of
improving physical co-ordination. |

| Of course, the children do not need to know all
this. For them, the classes are an opportunity to amaze their audience
with synthesized sounds, often using their own voices as a basis for the
synthesis of exciting and satisfying music. While all the time acquiring
new skills and new pride on their own creativity and achievement. |
