Courses in Musical Appreciation for children aged 3 to 7

The Hindhead Music Centre's Mini Music course is the best possible introduction to the world of music for young children.  During his or her first couple of weeks, each child will hear every orchestral instrument played, learn about how it works, draw a picture of it and even try playing it.  The child will also learn the rudiments of reading and writing music and of playing the recorder and various percussion instruments. All of this is combined with singing, aural and rhythm training in a friendly, fun atmosphere.

Although each term's course is complete in itself, children can continue attending Mini Music for many terms: the material of the classes readily bears repetition, and most children would benefit from at least two term's attendance.

As well as helping to establish a lifetime's love of music, the classes are invaluable in pointing the way forward for the child's musical education.  Many children leave the Mini Music class to go on to take individual lessons on the violin, 'cello, recorder or piano, while the older children may be ready to take up a woodwind or brass instrument.

The classes take place weekly, and each session lasts one hour.  There are eight sessions per term, with one week's half term break.  Classes for three to four year olds are on Fridays at 3 p.m., and classes for four to seven year olds are on Thursdays at 4 p.m.  Mini Music always starts on the second week of Hindhead Music Centre's published term, ie. one week later than the start of term for instrumental tuition.
