Childrens Opera

A Scene from "Moment Musicale - a day in the life of Franz Schubert", performed by the Hindhead Children's Opera Group on October 10th, 1998

Directed by Ann Hughes-Chamberlain and Edward Reeves

This work was originally written over twenty years ago for children at preparatory and junior school level, as one of a set to encourage them to develop a love and understanding of music generally, and in particular the composers of these little operas.

The tragedy of Schubert's life is poignant; his music is full of joy and magic, even that written at the very end of his short life whe  he was dying, and despite the fact that he was never recognised during his life time, with most of his music not being performed until long after his death.  His wonderful tunes and exquisite harmonic progressions are very appealing to even the very young.  Our "Mini Music" classes learnt and loved "The Trout" in the term prior to this performance, and the "School Children" in the performance are in fact members of these classes.

The Hindhead Children's Opera Group is open to all children who love to sing, with the ages of these performers being from 4 to 11 years.  It is intended as a means to encourage everyone to experience the joy of music making with others, even those who may not play a musical instrument.
