Suzuki Method |
![]() |
The Suzuki Method of violin and cello tuition is renowned internationally
for the outstanding results which can be achieved, particularly with children
who start at a very early age. The method is Japanese in origin,
and is carefully planned to keep children interested while promoting a
keen sense of rhythm and tonality. Much emphasis is given to correct
technique and disciplined practising, and there is also an important element
of ensemble playing included in the system, which helps to ensure a keen
ear and sensitive playing.

The Hindhead Music Centre offers both violin and cello tuition from
fully qualified Suzuki method teachers. Children can start the Suzuki
method at around three years of age on the violin, and at around four on
the cello.
Fees are the same as for traditional individual tuition. |

An important aspect of the Suzuki Method is the benefit to be gained from group playing. The Saturday String Clubs exist for students of both violin and 'cello, and meet several times during each term on Saturday mornings. All our string players in their first few years of learning are strongly encouraged to attend, whether taught by conventional or Suzuki method. There are classes specifically intended for complete beginners in their first term of tuition, and so no-one should feel that they are not yet up to joining a group. Complete beginners and those up to around grade one are placed in groups with others of the same level on the same instrument. Those at a higher level are placed in trios and quartets of mixed instruments. There is no additional charge for the String Clubs for existing HMC pupils who take an individual 30 minute weekly during term time.
